Continental brines, whether tapped through geothermal wells or co-produced during oil and gas production, hold significant potential as a lithium source for the global energy transition. This presentation demonstrates how KBR’s PureLi® and Geolith’s Li-Capt® technologies have been integrated to produce high-purity, battery-grade lithium carbonate from Europe’s largest underground reservoir, for Neptune Energy (Wenke et. al. 2025). The case study illustrates how advanced direct lithium extraction (DLE) can turn both underutilized water streams and untapped geothermal fluids into a strategic lithium source. This technology delivers a clean, secure, and scalable solution that empowers the future of electric mobility and energy storage.
