Philseok Kim
Dr. Philseok Kim is the Chief Technology Officer and Head of the Institute for Environmental Science & Technology at SK Innovation, the largest private energy enterprise in the Asia-Pacific region. He assumed this role in January 2025, bringing a wealth of experience in energy and environmental technologies.
Prior to joining SK Innovation, Dr. Kim served as a Program Director at the Advanced Research Projects Agency – Energy (ARPA-E) of the U.S. Department of Energy. During his tenure, he developed and managed cutting-edge programs in grid technology, ultrahigh temperature alloys, advanced heat exchangers, and innovative phytomining techniques, which involve extracting metals using terrestrial plants.
Dr. Kim is also a successful entrepreneur. He led the commercialization of anti-fouling coating technologies that he invented during his research at Harvard University. These coatings have significant applications in various industries, reducing maintenance costs and increasing the longevity of marine and industrial equipment.
He holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the Georgia Institute of Technology, where his research focused on materials science and engineering. Dr. Kim's work has been widely published in scientific journals, and he is a sought-after speaker at international conferences. In addition to his professional achievements, Dr. Kim is committed to mentoring young scientists and engineers, fostering a new generation of innovators in the fields of energy and environmental science.
