Mitchell Smith is a capital markets executive, entrepreneur, and board member with over 15 years of leadership experience across the junior mining lifecycle, with a focus on the critical minerals underpinning the global energy transition. He is currently a Partner, Metals & Mining at Moneta Securities, a Vancouver-based boutique investment bank, where he advises public and private companies on capital markets strategy, financings, and growth initiatives within the natural resource sector. In addition, Mitchell is the Founder, Chief Executive Officer, and Director of Global Energy Metals Corp. (TSXV: GEMC | OTC: GBLEF), a publicly listed company providing shareholders with exposure to the battery metals supply chain through a diversified portfolio of jurisdictionally secure critical mineral exploration and development projects located near key end-use markets. Mitchell is an active stakeholder and board member across several public and private natural resource companies, bringing experience that spans early-stage start-ups through to more advanced organizations across multiple jurisdictions and commodities. He serves as a Director of the Battery Metals Association of Canada, supporting the responsible and sustainable development of Canada’s battery metals supply chain; as Chairman of Fulcrum Metals plc (AIM: FMET), focused on the reprocessing and reclamation of legacy tailings assets; and as a Director of Advanced Energy Fuels (TSXV: AEF), which is advancing the extraction and purification of minerals critical to electrification and energy storage.
Throughout his career, Mitchell has led the identification, acquisition, and negotiation of multi-jurisdictional exploration and development projects across North America, Europe, and Australia. His work has also included establishing strategic off-take and EPC relationships with specialized lithium-ion battery cathode material companies supplying some of the world’s largest battery manufacturers. A recognized voice in the sector, Mitchell is a frequent keynote speaker and panelist on topics including cobalt, battery metals, energy storage, renewable energy, and critical mineral supply chain security. He is regularly cited in industry media for his insights into the role of battery materials in the global transition to a lower-carbon economy and, in 2020, ranked fourth globally among the most influential individuals and companies in the battery minerals sector on social media.
